BMW CEO and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Leipzig EventHoratiu Boeriu

2 commentsBMW plant in Leipzig hosted today one of the most important events of the decade. In an official setting, BMW CEO Norbert Reithoffer and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke on the importance of electric mobility and the future of electric-powered vehicles.
BMW’s future electric vehicles, starting with the ActiveE and Megacity Vehicle, will be manufactured in Leipzig, an important yet challenging task for the Leipzig Saxony plant.
Dr. Reithoffer reiterated once again that BMW will continue to build the cars we all expect. “BMW will remain a sporty brand, combining dynamics and mobility”, said Reithoffer in front of a large audience at the BMW plant in Leipzig.
German Chancellor Merkel applauded BMW’s efforts towards building a new way to consume automobiles and reiterated the support of Germany for future electric vehicles.
BMW will invest nearly 400 million euros in Megacity Vehicle production and will create over 800 jobs at the Leipzig plant. The positive impact on this region is expected to be high since most of the parts are produced in Germany. The carbon-fiber will be manufactured by SGL Group and BMW at the plant in Moses Lake, WA. Megacity Vehicles will then be assembled at Leipzig Werks.
The BMW plant in Dingolfing will produce important components for the drive system and chassis of the MCV.
“We made a conscious decision to produce the car in Germany, at our plant in Leipzig – our newest and most cutting-edge facility with the most flexible structures,” he added.
Prime Minister of the German state of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich, and the Governor of Washington state in the US, Chris Gregoire, were in attendance expressing once again their gratitude and full support to BMW in their new and exciting direction of electric mobility.
